Business Management Education for Today's Farm and Ranch Women

What is Annie's Project?
The mission of Annie's Project is to empower farm and ranch women to be better business partners through networks and by managing and organizing critical information.  It is an opportunity for farm and ranch women to learn about farm management skills and strategies in a comfortable setting.

  • Provides resources and information to improve your farming or ranching operation.
  • Small class size.
  • Nationally acclaimed curriculum.
  • Uses local experts in each topic as an ongoing resource.
  • Offers opportunities to network with other farm and ranch women in similar situations.

Annies Project 2010 will be delivered in a series of four workshops. It will combine lecture, discussion, individual assignments, small group work, computer work, and audio/visual support.

NEW THIS YEAR: Spouses are invited to attend the final two sessions on estate/transition planning and advanced marketing.

Cost: The fee for this course is $100 per person. 
The registration fee covers meals, program notebook, software and all other materials needed for class. For spouses attending the final two sessions, an additional $20 will be charged to cover their meals.

Pre-Registration: Pre-registration is required and registrations are due by January 4, 2010. Enrollment is limited due to room size and to facilitate discussion. Registration will be accepted on a first come basis.

Topics:
January 11 - Beginning Marketing
Learn basic grain marketing principles and strategies, the contracting tools available at your local elevator, how to decipher settlement sheets and participate in an online marketing simulation. Presenters include Henry Kornegay, Jackson Commodities; JC Hoyt, Cash Grain Bids Inc; and local elevator personnel.

January 16 - Records Management
Learn how to prepare financial and cash flow statements and financial analysis, compare your farm's records to industry standards and receive personal training using your own accounting program.  Includes hands-on QuickBooks training in a computer lab.  Presented by local area accounting instructors.

January 23 - Estate/Transition Planning
Invite your spouse to come along to this session as you learn how to create an estate and/or succession plan that fits your own operation.  Presented by Marsha Goetting, MSU Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist.

January 25 - Advanced Marketing
Bring your spouse to this session too while you learn advanced marketing principles, review your farm's marketing strategies, review the outcome of your class marketing simulation and learn about online grain trading opportunities. Presented by Henry Kornegay, Jackson Commodities and JC Hoyt, Cash Grain Bids Inc.
